Chichagof opens with a dedication to Scott Stamnes (1970 - 2000) who graced the screen of Volcom's first skate film, "Freedom Wig", in 1997. The film documents Volcom trips to Asia, South America, Europe, South Africa, and all over the the U.S.

The first part is South Africa footage from Appleyard, Berry, Suski, and Stanton. Some cool new spots and unique tricks, which this video is jammed with. In Dustin Dollin's main part you can tell he's having a blast. Lewis Marnell has plenty of good skating in here too. Watch out for the ender. Ryan Sheckler and Angel Ramirez have zero fear and they all go huge. Sheckler does the biggest BS flip and biggest kick-flip I've ever seen. Next is Matt Dove's part. He does all his techie vert stuff in a short part. The Japan section is next with bowl skating from all the transition skaters. Dennis Businitz's part is great. He skates at high velocities in all his lines and all his tricks are really close together and unique. Definitely a must see. Darell's part is mostly all hammers.

Next we go pool hunting from a blimp with Rune and then watch he and Chalmers kill them. Finally the Good Year blimp serves a useful purpose other than blowing around over a football game. Suski and Javier Sarmiento's crew have a short part.

As if this might have any bearing on the tile o Volcom's DVD... here's some random info to make you smarter than you thought you already were:
Chichagof Island is an island in the Alexander Archipelago of the Alaska Panhandle. It is 2,080 sq. miles in area. It is 75 miles long and 50 miles wide. Chichagof Island is north of Baranof Island. It is bounded by Chatham Strait to the east, Icy Strait to the northeast, Cross Sound to the northwest, the Gulf of Alaska to the west and Peril Strait to the south. The communities of Hoonah, Pelican, Tenakee Springs, and Elfin Cove are all located on Chichagof Island. The primary economic sources for all these communities come from either Chichagof Island or the waters and fjords surrounding it. Guided hunting trips, fishing, and logging are all vital economic facets of the local economies. This island is named after Admiral Vasili Chichagov, a Russian Arctic explorer.

Of course none of this explains why the name is on the ship on the DVD cover. Perhaps I've missed the point entirely... wouldn't be the first time.

The video's bonus stuff closes out with Stamnes riding a mini pipe on the back of a ship. I wish there were more info out there about Stamnes, the ship and the DVD's title.
