Skateboarding DVD Video Review:Foundation's Moon & Stars European Tour

Members of the Foundation Skateboard Company's skate team head to Germany, Russia, France and the Netherlands as they promote one of the leading suppliers in the extreme sports field. That may well have been their goal, but this DVD didn't cut it for me. I'm not sure why they called this a tour. The idea of a tour seems to indicate some structure and planning. Road trip may have been a better, more accurate, descriptor. If you're going to rip off the cover art from National Lampoon's European Vacation, wouldn't it make sense to tie in a little comedy? Is the only similarity that they both centered on Europe? How lame.
Foundation's tour hit the following locations with their four skaters:
- May 17 - Playstation Skate Park in London
- May 22 - 911 Skate Park in Belgium.
- May 27 - Moscow State Hall in Moscow
- May 31 - The Etnies Cup in Munich
- June 7 - Teenage Tour 3 in Paris
During the video, there is little indication as to where the team is skating. The whole production seems quite disjointed.
On the other hand I watched this DVD while recovering from Hernia repair surgery. Having strangers slice open my groin for the purpose of stuffing my guts back into the proper body cavity, is a little unsettling and may have skewed my usually attentive nature while reviewing this disc. They also gave me a hefty supply of the finest generic Vicodin that the pharmacy could bear to part with.
I love the Foundation brand and team, I just wanted a better video than this.
Comparing movies of different genres is quite difficult. Foundation made a SK8 Film and National Lampoon made a comedy. Neither were very good or very funny... in fact the original Vacation film was awesome, the follow-up is poor attempt at a sequel. European Tour is also a poor attempt.
The first Vacation flick was a timeless classic - something to be enjoyed by the masses for all eternity. A Foundation SK8 vid should emanate the same feelings. Alas, this one doesn't. Vacation had Christie Brinkley chasing after Clark Griswald's Family Truckster as she sexed-up the streets in her Ferrari. We need more sex and less crappy sk8 footy!
And how can we forget Jane Krakowski (of Ally McBeal Fame) who casually spoke of french-kissing her father as she stirred a pitcher of lemonade with her whole arm. Or the piss-drenched sandwiches they all savored... You just have to stick with the original. Sequels will almost always disappoint.
Avoid all European Vacations and Tours. Stick with what you know - originals rule!
