When you see American sk8 teams go to europe, you immediately see the different architecture and other clues that let you know they're not in SoCal anymore. However, when you see a team like the Frenchmen of Cliché hit the streets, you just know they're locals doing their thing... in Europe. Americans have this odd way of standing out like a sore thumb when on neighboring continents.

Cliché has a knack for making great sk8 videos without them seeming like foreign films. Lazy Americans, like myself, never like reading subtitles or trying to figure out colloquialisms we've never heard of while trying to associate some sort of meaning to them so we can understand the stupid film we're watching.

Outside of killer skating, these Frenchmen have a good sense of humor. They do a skit in which one of them is continually running down flights of stairs with his skate, desperate go go ride. The editing leads us to believe he's traveling down stairs forever until the last flight leaves him right where he started. Good stuff.

An intro scene shows someone ollie onto a rolling pallet and bail. It isn't all together clear what was going on... until the end of the disc where we see him succeed as pallet after pallet is shoved his way. He ollies and manuals across all of them. This creates an interesting optical effect with the skater appearing motionless as the pallets travel beneath his skate. It sort of reminds me of that Jamiroquai video in which they moved the walls - on wheels - around the band. BTW - I hate Jamiroquai's music and the stupid hats the lead-singer wears.

Freedom Fries is an excellent movie and is available in a limited box-set containing, Europa, Bon Appetit and Freedom Fries - all on DVD. Sweet!
