Just because your parents find it convenient to shop at an all-in-one box-store, like Kmart or Wal-Mart, doesn't mean they're getting good deals. Very often low prices on certain items are compensated by higher prices on others. Another tactic is lowered quality. Some companies design product specifically for Wal-Mart and they cut corners to offer such merchandise at much lower costs.

If you're shopping for skateboard equipment, discount stores, toy stores and sporting goods stores are the WRONG place to shop. If the price seems too good to be true - it is! Maybe the convenience of buying spark plugs & potato chips at the same store appeals to some shoppers, skaters know that independent skate shops are the ONLY place to buy high quality, reliable skateboards and equipment.

These uninformed skaters/consumers need your help. You can lend a hand and help support local skate shops by downloading these SYLSS "Crappy Skateboard" WARNING LABELS (4-up PDF files) and stick 'em on those crappy products you encounter.

Only independent skateboard shops sell quality products that won't break or fall apart in the first 10 minutes of use. Boards purchased from crappy department stores and gluttonous box-stores are unsafe and will usually result in unnecessary injuries.

Clue-in and buy from your local skate shop. They are the only ones who care about you and ensuring you get high quality equipment. Department stores and sporting goods stores only want your money. Independent skate shops want to keep you as a customer by helping you get the best products available.
