Skateboarding Book Review:The Skateboard Art of Jim Phillips

The Skateboard Art of Jim Phillips Skateboarding Snowboarding skateboard snowboard DVD Video Review Four Stars

Author: Jim Phillips (??)
Publisher: Schiffer Publishing
Released: November 2007
Rating: 4 Stars

What a difference 4 years can make!
If you purchased the prior Jim Phillips book - also published by Schiffer - Surf, Skate and Rock Art of Jim Phillips, you may have been a little disappointed with the selection and replication of the artwork in that book. There is also the issue of who wrote that book. No author is credited in the printed version and the text and layout lead me to believe that it was produced without any involvement from Jim Phillips. Anyway...

"The Skateboard Art of Jim Phillips" is just that - skateboard art. No rock posters. No surf ads. No insanely small replications of larger works. Over the last three decades, Phillips has created some of the most recognized logos and skate art the world has ever seen. If you're into his skate art, this is the book for you.

Screaming Hand by Jim Phillips for Pocket Pistol Skates

If you skated anytime from the 70's through the 90's you've seen Jim's work on countless stickers, boards, ads and more. He was as prolific as creative, most noted for his work with Santa Cruz and the amazing creations he developed for their brand and riders. The "Screaming Hand" was one of the most popular designs and it lives on today in a new incarnation for Pocket Pistol Skates.
