I never understood the appeal of the "Odd Couple" TV show from back in the day, but the formula works well. I preferred Jack Klugman as "Quincy" anyway. When Rob & Big aired on Mtv in November 2006, it was an instant hit.

Reality shows were in full force since they're cheaper to produce than standard shows, but no one had really created a skateboard reality show. OK, Bam Margera came up with Viva La Bam, but it followed the format of Jackass which was oriented towards idiotic stunts (very funny ones) and seemed less about skateboarding. And Skate Maps appeared in 2004, but it followed a different format - it kind of sucked.

Rob & Big featured professional skateboarder Rob Dyrdek and his best friend and bodyguard Christopher "Big Black" Boykin as roommates. Their physical differences just made me laugh. Seeing them fumble through a day was hysterical. The saving grace of this show, aside from skateboarding, is that both these guys are charismatic as all Hell. They work together very well.

Rob & Big's Cast

  • Rob Dyrdek - Professional skateboarder.
  • Christopher "Big Black" Boykin - Ex bodyguard and member of The Chunky Boys.
  • Christopher "Drama" Pfaff - Rob's cousin and personal assistant
  • Reshawn "Bam Bam" Davis - Ex bodyguard and member of The Chunky Boys.
  • Meaty - Rob and Big's bulldog.
  • Mini Horse - Rob and Big's mini horse.

If you had any doubts about Rob & Big's popularity, there were several Alien Workshop decks released with a very cool logo and even Rob's dog, Meaty, got a deck! There are way too many routines in this set to even begin mentioning them... but I will. Watching BB shoo away security guards was classic and the miniature horse they bought was funny as Hell. The best part was naming him, "Mini Horse". These guys are too funny. Life needs more humor like this and less of the generic crap Hollywood thinks we like.

If you saw "Life of Ryan", check out Rob & Big to see how reality should be done. Poor Ryan Skeckler probably had big dreams of a hit show. Instead he became skateboarding's bitch. Funny how things don't always work out the way one plans.

This set contains 16 episodes which make up both seasons 1 & 2. Too bad they didn't expand the seasons once it took off. There's no reason not to own this set and watch it weekly. It's hysterical. This is the kind of show producers dream of making in which the idea, characters and audience all merge into a glob of happiness. This show rocks - buy it!
