When it comes to street skating, I love a gritty ghetto-looking scene. Chapman's Short Ends provides just such grit from the heart of New York city and on out to Long Island. At only $5 you can't go wrong with this disc. Unlike many "promo" discs at discount prices, Short End is only promoting skateboarding. And it's good skating as well.

Whenever I see a lighthouse - like the one on Short End's cover - I think of the beach. Although surrounded by water, NYC doesn't conjure up the same beach thoughts. I used to live there, so I'm not some SoCal kook with an east coast axe to grind. I just think that most beaches in the area contain more medical waste than sea shells and such. I'm sure someone will set me straight with an informative NYC beach guide email that will be promptly deleted.

Jake Johnson's breakout part in this film helped him land a spot with Alien, Quicksilver and became the next "it kid" everyone in NY is talking about. His part alone is worth the $5. Chapman's first audio/visual release featuring Jake Johnson, Luke Malaney and Brendan Leddy (has one hell of a sick back smith) along with Mike Marks and some of New York's best. Filmed on location in the Northeast on 16mm and 24p video, this film highlights New York City and Long Island's up and coming skaters. 20 mins Directed by Jeremy Scott.
