Skateboard Shoe Review:Vans Slip-on Shoes

Vans Slip-on Shoes snowboarding skateboarding video DVD review Five star rating

Manufacturer: Vans
Released:
Rating: 5 Stars

The Vans Slip-On shoe has long been a staple of SK8 footwear. Not because its the best shoe to skate in, but because of it's long rich history. Perhaps popularized by Jeff Spicoli (aka actor, Sean Penn) in the movie "Fast Times at Ridgemont High", the black & white checkerboard shoe is one of the most recognized shoes on the planet. We totally made up that last claim. We love this shoe and will defend it to the death... and we still think it's very popular on this planet and others... possibly. Although we won't know much more about sk8 shoes on other planets if the US Government continues to cut the NASA budget in favor of fake wars and soaring gasoline prices.

Fast Times at Ridgemont High

As a skate shoe, I'm not wild about ‘em. As an all-around cool shoe - they ROCK! There's nothing like them in terms of comfort or style. BTW, they're comfortably stylish. And you can drop them in the washing machine when they get good and ripe. Just don't put them in the dryer... let them dry over night.

Most notable is the checkerboard pattern that now comes in a variety of colors for both men and women... kids too. They've even gone on to be plastered with skulls and bats among other things. Few things say "cool" like a pair of Vans Slip-Ons. They say something about the wearer that set them apart from everyone else.

I like being set apart from everyone else because most people suck. Therefore, being an individual is a good thing. If you're going to a wedding, make sure you wear your black checkered Vans along with that annoyingly poor fitting tuxedo. If you're meeting you girlfriend's parents for the first time, wear your Vans to let them know you're down. You may want to inform her parents that skateboarding IS the sport of the future. You get the idea - everywhere you wear your Vans, you're telling people you're cooler than they are. Let ‘em know good and loud!

Pros & Cons:

Pros:

  • Comfortable
  • The coolest style in the galaxy
  • Easy to clean - just dump ‘em in the washer

Cons:

  • Not a damn thing

Overall:

You can't beat the value, comfort or style of a pair of Vans Slip-Ons. Thankfully retro is "in" and this is as retro-cool as you can get with a sk8 shoe.
