Snowboard DVD Review:True Life
Director:
Studio: Mack Dawg Productions
Released: 2001
Rating: 3 Stars
Staring:
Devun Walsh, JP Walker, Bjorn Leines, Peter Line, Jeremy Jones, Joni Malmi, Chris Dufficy, Nate Bozung and Mike Page.
True Life is basically a team video for Forum Snowboards, filmed by Mack Dawg Productions and packaged into its own feature. Forum riders get a lot of hype, but this movie does not come off as a team vid.
Not to be too depressing... the film opens up with text about their "fallen friends". Mike Page rode into a steel cable and was told he would lose his legs. Mike has made a full recovery and still snowboards professionally. Mikko Sjblom flew 165 feet off an 80 foot table-top. He was in a coma for several weeks.
Each rider has a distinct part, including a notable comeback from Chris Dufficy who opens the film. Jeremy follows with huge 540 cliff drops, powdery kickers and high-stakes street rails. Devun delivers switch and 720 cliff drops, huge floaty 360s in the backcountry and more. Joni mixes it up with street rails and park kickers and JP closes the video with a little bit of everything. BJ and Peter have the shortest parts due to injuries.
Although beautifully filmed, there was something that didn't quite make this flick click for me. There was a mix of back country and park footage, but none of it really got me excited. OK, it came with a bonus CD full of tunes - that was rather exiting, but overall it lacked energy.
If you ever want to see energy... check out wild-man, pro skier Glen Plake! That's a guy who knows about energy - how to pump it and how to use it.
